Setting Tables and the Power of Dishes

I don’t believe the family has lost it’s ability to sit all together and enjoy a meal at a nicely set table (even if it is in the middle of the week)…after all, we are creating memories in the process. This is always readily apparent when we see a piece of Grandma’s china and recollect elbowing up to the table for all the family fun and laughter…and I physically smile just thinking back. I can almost taste her cooked red potatoes from her garden! All from a set of dishes.

With a busy schedule that is not slowing down anytime soon, I find, for our small family, a day through the week is better suited for a traditional ‘special’ meal than the time-honoured and memorable Sunday dinner, without losing this precious tradition altogether. Although Grandma did not always allow us in the kitchen when the meal was prepared, today in my family, we all need to be involved in order to make it happen…and we all take our roles seriously, including setting a nice table…a tradition our young family will hopefully keep with them.

Invest time at the dinner table today with family. It lends to future traditions fondly thought, well spent.
